Indian Springs II

Relaxing and painting in the sunshine. It was a gorgeous, warm day and the sound of rushing watter provided the perfect background music.

Indian Springs 1
And it was a spectacular last day in Southern California. The trip from San Diego to Palm springs was rain and wind the entire way! We spent the afternoon at a spot called Indian Springs and I managed to paint some and get some great pictures while soaking up the sunshine. It feels good to be home and the sun is shining - lots of signs of spring already.

Impatiens

Well, some sun, more rain and lots of flowers. Impatiens are Mary's, our host, favorite flower and I was fortunate enough to get a break for my painting time. San Diego is a spectacular place regardless of the weather. A day in Balboa park and a visit to a special exhibit "A Day in Pompeii" at the Natural History Museum - very well done. Not quite the same as being there but well worth the time.
Today - more serious rain - and off to Palm Springs where sunny weather is promised (?) for our last day.

Quince Blossoms
Well, here we are in San Diego and the rain is not unlike the great Northwest! It's evening now and there are signs of light in the sky. As near as I can remember that's caused by the sun!!!!! Perhaps there will be a great sunset over the ocean - stay tuned.

Travelling
Sorry but after getting up at 5am yesterday and then flying to Palm Springs then driving to Antelope Valley I have been unable to do much creating. I have managed to get some great photographs so I should have something to show soon.

Western Glow
This piece depicts a typical northwest sunset. I particularly love the subtle colors and the way the islands become silhouetted against the sky and water. It’s another beautiful day of sunshine here before I head to southern California for a, I hope, full week of vitamin D.

Mediterranean Sunset
Watercolor 5" x 7"This piece was painted from a photo I took in Taormina, Sicily in January of 2007. The view is looking east with the sun behind you lighting up the clouds. I’ve recently begun using an “Art masking fluid” to block out details in the painting before doing the background washes. I always enjoy doing these sketches, they transport me back to those wonderful days traveling.

Witch-Hazel Branch

7" x 5" $45
Witch hazel is one of the first signs of spring in the garden, they start blooming in late January and are like a bright spot of sunshine. I always bring branches into the house to enjoy the flowers and their wonderful frangrance. It seemed natural to use them as the subject for the day - enjoy.

Valentines Day 2008
“Market Bouquet” 7”x5” $45As the morning paper reminded us we live in a part of the world where sunshine is either a past memory or a future hope. I guess I need to get some more vitamin D! One thing that helps me is to use the many pictures I have of flowers and scenes with lots of color. Today’s piece is a watercolor from a picture that I took last summer at our local Farmer’s Market. I’m looking forward to the opening to see lots of friends when we come out of our winter hibernation.
